We are poor little Snowdens, who lost our way, baa, baa, baa. We are little lost Snowdens, who have gone a-stray, baa, baa, baa.
Sure, the debate over whether or not it is, in the end, worse to have Islamists able to operate without being watched, or if it is worse to have everyone else watched is still a worthwhile discussion. Hi-ho, prevent Snowden’s “turnkey tyranny” fantasy. However, in reality, what Snowden has wrought is panopticon for everyone except terrorists. I mean seriously people, who isn’t on Facebook (which owns everything you post and robotically reads everything you type)? Or Linked-in? Or Google-plus (a system created to assemble meta-data)? Or Gmail (which reads every email automatically so you can get advertising, and remembers everyone you have ever emailed)? Or ATT, or Verizon, or Sprint, etc, etc.?
So really the debate we should be having is whether or not it is worse to have Islamists (and other terrorists, but mostly they are Islamic) able to plot and attack in secret, or not. That’s it. Ding! Nothing else.
Yes, Edward, it is that stark, that simple.
No, don’t come home. Waste of your talents to get life in Leavanworth. Instead, Edward dearest, stay in Russia and devote your weirdly dimwitted self to finding those people you so idiotically characterized as “a few disorganized Arabs.” You know who I’m talking about? Those guys running wild in Syria, creating ISIL, carving out a new nation in the middle east, exterminating other religion-cultures? That sort?
